Integrated Care in Action Podcast: Strategies for Advancing Health Equity, Part 1

Time to read: 2 minutes.

Date: February 7, 2024

Advancing health equity, defined as “the attainment of the highest level of health for all people, where everyone has a fair and just opportunity to attain their optimal health,” is a Health and Human Services-wide strategic priority.1 Health equity initiatives can provide an opportunity for health plans to design, implement, and operationalize programs to improve disparities in care and, ultimately, in health outcomes.2

This podcast explores SCAN Health Plan’s (SCAN) health equity approach. A not-for-profit Medicare Advantage health plan, SCAN serves more than 285,000 enrollees across California, Nevada, Arizona, and Texas. It also covers more than 48,400 individuals dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid, which include dually eligible special needs plan enrollees. Listen to SCAN’s former Chief Medical Officer – Dr. Romilla Batra – share insights about SCAN’s initiatives to reduce health care disparities and its broader data-driven strategies to advance health equity.
